Advantages of Cellular PVC Building Products Vi-Lux Plastics cellular PVC products have advantages over solid rigid vinyl and is an excellent substitute for wood products in many applications. Cellular PVC is less dense than solid rigid PVC and as a result is more economical. As wood prices escalate, cellular PVC is a cost effective and ecological sound substitute to wood. Foamed PVC products handle in the same way as wood. In addition, cellular PVC is maintenance free, rot resistance alternative requiring no priming or painting. When compared to pine, cellular PVC products outperform pine in impact strength, water absorption and resistance to burning.

Vi-Lux Plastics uses the Celuka process when extruding cellular PVC profiles. Using this method, the extrudate is forced through a die and instantly enters a calibrator, where it is immediately cooled. This cooling suppresses cell formation at the surface resulting in a virtually solid surface with a smooth hard finish with the core of the profile typically less dense than the surface.

The Celuka process differs from another method used in the industry, notably the free foaming process. Under the free foaming process, profiles have a more evenly distributed density across its cross section, but sacrifice the hard smooth surface finish more commonly associated with the Celuka process and products manufactured by Vi-Lux Plastics.
